First ever model complete.

I'm not 100% pleased with the end result, the light green I added doesn't work and looks bad, plus the paint looks "sticky" on the pad for some reason. Overall I guess it's not a bad first attempt, and I am really happy with the cloth but I don't know, I can't help feeling a little deflated.

  1. Hi!
I think you did a really good job on your first model. don't beat yourself up to much - experience will come in time.

In terms of getting a smoother paint finish, you should try to thin down your paints just a little. when i paint normaly i thin down 1 to 1.
Example: i allways mix my paint on an old white tile (others use plates or special mixing plates) so i take a small amount of paint with my brush and add it to my tile, and then i add a small amount of clean water with a clean brush - and mix them. and you ready to go. this will give you a more smooth finish.
and if you want to highlight then you just ad a very small amount of skull white to your mix.. do your highlight over a couple of time gradualy making it lighter and lighter. just remember to ad a little water to the mix once in a while after adding the skull white.

check out this guy from youtube, he gives a lot of great tips.
here is one where he is painting an Ultra Marine
